Private Instruction

Private lessons are currently offered in piano, violin, viola, cello, voice, and guitar. Strings are taught using the Suzuki method of instruction. Private lessons on all instruments are open to anyone in the community, ages 4 through adult. The length of lesson is determined by age and student level.

Suzuki Violin and Cello Group Classes/Guitar Ensembles

As part of the Suzuki program, all string students participate in string group class throughout the semester in addition to private lessons. Group classes develop ensemble skills of listening and rhythm, and give students an opportunity to experience the joy of making music with others. Students participate in group class until they reach an appropriate level of proficiency to join the orchestra.

Junior Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra

The RMA has two orchestras: junior orchestra and chamber orchestra. Orchestra experience develops the opportunity for students to learn some of the great repertoire written exclusively for strings and develops more advanced ensemble skills. The string faculty together decide which orchestra is most appropriate for each student.

Chamber Music

Playing with other musicians is one of the most rewarding ways to celebrate love of music and use one’s developing skills. Chamber music provides an opportunity for students to play together in duos, trios, or quartets. Students are matched by age and level of ability. Chamber music is open to anyone in the community, even students not enrolled for private study in the RMA.

Early Childhood Music

This unique class provides multiple music experiences, while preparing the child and parent for private music instruction on any instrument, including voice. We will sing, vocalize and learn simple solfege (do, re, mi). Creative movement will be used to explore Nursery Rhymes, seasonal favorites and songs specific to the Suzuki literature. Favorite rhymes using finger play promotes fine motor skills needed to play an instrument. Your child will use simple percussion instruments to foster steady beat and practice fun rhythmic variations while strengthening your child's vocabulary. Instrument demonstration will be provided by RMA students and teachers in order for parent and child to experience musical expression.

Choir

Choir is open to anyone in the community, ages 6 years old through adult. Students are placed in a choir according to age. If you enjoy singing, this is the class for you! Students develop reading skills, as well as choral and vocal techniques through a variety of musical styles.

Adult Programs

Adults are encouraged and welcome to study in the RMA programs. Individual instruction, chamber music, theory, and choir are open to adults from beginner to advanced level.

Performance Opportunities

Students are given numerous opportunities throughout the year to share their progress with audience through monthly recitals, outreach concerts, and in workshops for guest artists.
