RMA Theory Program, 2008 - 2009
Semester 2 Theory classes are:
- 30 January (make up date for Halloween) through May 2009
- Spring Break - 10 April - no classes
Theory Classes for Semester 1 begin on 19 September and end on 19 December. There are no theory classes in January. Classes resume for semester 2 on 6 February 2009. Students, please bring a check made out to RMA for class materials to the first class (Friday, 19 Sep). Class material costs are listed below.
Theory Placement
Students must enter the new Blacksburg Middle School at the Community Entrance at the far left end of the building. Please do not enter in the Main Entrance.
Reminder: theory materials must be paid for in the first class on September 14. Parents please be sure to read the theory letter to see the cost for materials at the level in which your child is now placed. Also, please read the letter to be sure you bring appropriate supplies to the first class if needed.
Please do not bring food or drink into the classrooms. Water is allowed.

Theory Placement Exam will be held on Friday, 12 September 2008, from 4 to 6 P.M. Only students in Young Beginners, Level 1, and any new student enrolling in theory must take the placement exam. Theory classes for all students begin on Friday, 19 September 2008. Please check this website on Tuesday, 16 September for class listings and time/location. Please be sure to bring a check made out to RMA to the first class for class materials. Cost for materials is listed below for each level:
- Young Beginners Music Mind Games ($29.00)
- Level Ia and Ib: Rudiments: a Foundation in Music Part I (15.95)
- Level IIa and IIb: Rudiments: a Foundation in Music Part II ($16.95)
- Level IIIb: continuing with last year's draft of Rudiments: a Foundation in Music Part III (no charge)
- Level IV (no students) Harmony: a Practical Approach Part I ($31.95)
- Level V: Harmony: a Practical Approach Part II ($32.95)
- Level VI: Harmony: a Practical Approach Part III ($33.95)
