BARBARA MACKIN

Piano Teacher

Barbara Mackin Holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Master of Music degree in Music Theory from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Teaching piano has been a focus of her career and she enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels of experience, from beginners to college level, young children to adults. Barbara is the author of two series of books on music theory: Rudiments: a Foundation in Music and Harmony: a Practical Approach. Her books are written to simplify theory, to make it practical and enjoyable to study. She is a workshop presenter on theory and piano pedagogy and enjoys serving as a festival adjudicator. Currently, she serves as adjunct faculty at Hollins University as a piano instructor and lecturer in theory. Barbara joined the Renaissance Music Academy in September 2003, where she teaches piano and is the theory coordinator. She brings her love of music to teaching and hopes to inspire students to share her passion.
