KIM LOEFFERT

Music Theory Teacher
Kim Loeffert is a music theorist and saxophonist who holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from Florida State University, a D.M.A. and M.M. in Saxophone Performance as well as an M.M. in Music Theory Pedagogy from Michigan State University, and a B.M. double majoring in Saxophone Performance and Jazz Studies from Northwestern University.
She is co-editor with John Peterson (James Madison University) of Modeling Musical Analysis (Oxford University Press 2024), a collection of essays written by minoritized scholars modeling analytical writing for undergraduate students using a variety of music theories and genres. As the baritone saxophonist of the h2 quartet, Dr. Loeffert can be heard on seven critically acclaimed, full-length albums. She serves as Assistant Professor in the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts, having previously served on the faculty at Oklahoma State University.
